to make sure that the weight is evenly distributed over the axles of the vehicle(too much weight in the back...hard to steer) and too much weight overall too dangerous for everyone else on the road...trucks w/ multi axles usually have to stop...tolls @ toll gate/fines @ weigh station

The main places you would find a weight station are near water areas such as lakes, pond, and rivers. Well, trucks that have beds (not sleeping beds where you would sleep on. I'm talking about the long parts at the end of trucks that are hooked-up to the back) are the type of trucks that have to stop if you have heavy items in them such as cylinder blocks and the heavy kind of guns. And at some stations they do "poll a toll". Also, those "18" wheeler trucks would have to stop as well because most of the time they transport heavy items.

Well lets say that the highway will support a truck that weights 100,000 pounds. And a truck driver gets paid by the weight of the truck. So thi driver tryes to make a little more money and drive a truck that weights by say 150,000 pounds . Shure he makes more money but trares up the highway to do it. So there is weights stations to check the weight of the trucks to keep out highways fit to drive on. But then there are trucks that drive the way thy should. But that is what weights stations are for to keep us all safe.

To ensure that transport trucks are under the determined weight for the highway or road they are driving on. If trucks are consistantly too heavy they will damage the road surface.
