WHY do various sources of media sexualize girls?

I am doing research on the sexualization of girls. Although i have found excellent information (APA Taskforce), i haven't found any reasons, motives, or benefits to sexualizing girls. If anyone can recommend a good website, book, or journal article, i'd really appreciate it, thank you.

ok, by my first response i need to emphasize GIRLS, and not women, obviously i know why women would be sexualized, but who other than pedophiles would enjoy the sexualization of GIRLS.
