Will you people get real. There has been exactly ONE death in the NHL. Bill Masterson got checked and fell backwards while helmetless. Stop crying bloody murder-the guy got a few stitches from a vicious attack BUT stop feeling so sorry for him because he plays a man's game and gets payed handsomely to do so. He has dished out some questionable hits himself-including IMO the one on Simon.

Put it this way-Simon has a concussion and will be suspended 22 games and Hollweg has 2 stitches. Stop the crying-if you want to cry about something-how about troops in Iraq or starving children.

It also helped his case that he was feeling fuzzy and it wasn't pre-meditated like the Bertuzzi incidident. It wasn't a blow-out game (actually tied and they lost because of it) and it wasn't in the final seconds of the game. All contributing factors for the suspension I am sure.

the voice of reason i was beginning to think hockey fans were turing into panzies. those winy fans are brought in by bettman. probably all roller blade fags. Eddie Shore considered a hockey legend crushed Ace Bailey from behind could you imagine what the babies would say about that. probably call for the death penalty. =)

While I am bashing Simon as much as anyone, calling the hit attempted murder is going way too far. But he did have an intent to injure -- the officials thought so too, since they issued the match penalty.

Any intent to injure should be considered a criminal act. The fact that it happens during a sporting event should be no excuse. Last I checked, the object of hockey was to score more goals than the other team. Am I missing something??

Anyone else drops the gloves and fights. The fact he used his stick to hit him in the face shows just how much of a man he is. Simon being the little panzy he is has to swing his stick at Hollweg because he got hit into the boards. If you can't get hit, don't play hockey. I am sure the NHL will take care of the 2nd part of that for Simon.

Wow, can't believe Hollweg actually played today. They must have sewed his head back on. The attack was stupid but I agree lets keep this real. Simon will get his suspension and Hollweg like you said got a couple stitches.

Murder? NO. Simon did intend to cause GREAT injury! He was darn mad! Hockey fans go to the games to see the hard checks, fist fights etc... as much as we go to see the goals scored. However, the guys get mad just like ALL of us when they think they've been wronged or just plain tired of getting slammed around. Simon forgot that getting checked into the glass is part of the game and got carried away. He should be punished but not accused of attempted murder for crying out loud!

Don't change hockey!!! WE like it the way it is and the PLAYERS like it the way it is! Save the other sports like football, basketball and the like for the pansy girlie men!

It was ---AT MOST--- worthy of being considered assault and battery in its misdemeanor classification.

But Bob is right - hockey is a game where players can get to be very physical, and this is one of the risks the player goes under when he steps on the ice for a game.

So yes, it was a poor choice that Simon made. But under no circumstance was it anything more than a brutal hit.

I heard about the incident for a day and a half before I actually saw the video. Based on everything I had heard, I expected to see a two handed guilotine attempt at talking his head off.

When I saw the video I could not believe that I was seeing the same play that everyone was screaming about.

Was it bad....yes.

Was it Bertuzzi-esque? No.

Was it McSorley-esque? No.

How about making the offending player sit out as many games... or even twice as many games... as the receiving player does due to his injury???

Doesn't look so bad now... does it?

Hello !! Attempted murder ?! LOL .That's ridiculous!
Regardless of what has happened in the past .Simon's hit was vicious! All because Hollweg got him first he got mad and did something stupid.Hollweg's hit was clean. Was Simon's !?
Watch the replay and if you eyes you'll clearly see that Simon's suspention was merited.

It wasn't attempted murder. I do believe Simon regrets his actions and the heat of the moment just got the best of him that night, He shouldn't be suspended as severely as he is. IMO he deserves 10 games and a public apology.

Hollweg's hit should've atleast been reviewed.

I agree that this wasn't attempted murder. I don't think that was meant literally. However, Simon is the one who is a pansy. You get hit hard, you get rattled, you get pissed, you drop the gloves. Period. End of story. There's no excuse for this cheap shot, stick swinging BS!

lol. good point. what he did was wrong, i wouldnt encourage a hockey player to do that to everyone if he got hit..but u do have a good point. And thats also what i always say. The players know what risk theyre getting into by playing hockey in the first place.
