I am trying to safely remove my external hard disk and my usb flash drive from my laptop and it could not do it. I am not accessing any programs from them and i could not find the reason why it could not do it. The error message is the typical one: the device "........" cannot be stopped because a program is still accessing it. Any ideas ?

Scan your computer and the external drivers for viruses, spywares which might be working in hidden modes. Dont try to fix them yourself if you are not confident about the problem fixing.Call up a technical person because carelessness might damage the external drivers.

The external hard disk will probably be under constant use from your pc. I'm not an expert on hard drives, but you may want to remove it when your laptop is turned off, which won't do it any damage.

Usually a little icon will appear on the bottom of your desktop if you double click it you can safely stop its use and unplug it without harming your PC.I listed a site in source that will guide you thru it.

I've had this problem to.

Open Task Manager. Click the processess tab and see if there are any you recognize for these devices. If you do, end the process. (WARNING: If you click the wrong one it will force your computer to shutdown in thirty seconds or your desktop will disappear.)

If you don't just pull them out after you save everything(this usually doesn't cause any problems with memory loss).
