Carmelo Anthony got 15 games for throwing a single punch in an NBA game! Simon should have at least gotten a year.

If that is the cheapest shot you have ever seen then you haven't been a fan long. Attempted murder?? Stop the whining. Criminal? Why are you not spending your time condemning pedophiles or something more worthwhile? Must be a Ranger fan to be so upset. Dale Hunter's was worse and he got 22 games as well I believe. Seems fair to me. Move on.

First off that ISN'T official. I was watching the Pens game and although they said that is the "leaked" word the NHL never released it. OK so we know that is likely what it is though right? Anyway attempted murder? Come on this is a PROVOKED attack in a case where it couldn't happen to a better guy. Sorry but watching the Pens and Rangers game and trust me that dude deserves to get punched in the face. Simon went too far using a stick, but still couldn't happen to a nicer guy. It WASN'T attempted Murder. It was HEAD HUNTING. If he wanted to try to kill the dude he would have AIMED at the neck not the face. As to the sixth time, some of his suspensions include using a racial slur. Yes that is wrong and he deserved the three game suspension, BUT that isn't a hit or attack. As to the comparing it to an NBA player getting a 15 game suspension for throwing a punch, well let's look at that closer. The NHL is a FULL Contact sport. The NBA is a minimal contact sport at best. Simon was PROVOKE BY BEING THROWN INTO THE BOARDS. I don't care what a dude says to you it isn't the same. Simon got a concussion from being thrown into the boards. Did Carmelo injure his hand punching the dude or something? Even if he HAD it would have still been AFTER the fact. Also remember they likely put it at 22 games and are going to make Simon apply for reinstatement.

Well hockey is a VERY physical game... and it always has been. In fact it's less violent in todays NHL than ever before in the past. People have been killed in the NHL in the past. You are never going to take aggression out of the sport completely as these guys are testosterone filled highly physical individuals. Sometimes they snap and are overly aggressive with hits and sometimes they react with extreme aggression in retaliation for what they perceive is another players dirty actions.

I don't think there is a black and white solution.. if you want zero violence in sports.. you need to stop the sport entirely. That goes for hockey, football, basketball, Nascar etc.

That's not going to happen so the disciplinary bodies in each sport have to be firm when handing out punishments so the players get the message that even though they are playing a sport.. excessive violence is still a criminal act. If an action has the potential to kill someone... they need to face criminal charges and be prosecuted. The act should be viewed under the same light as if the action occurred on the street. Body checking... even clean body checking that causes broken bones, concussions and even ended careers IS a part of the game. That's a fact. That's a part of hockey.. sometimes a perfect clean hit can cause a huge amount of damage.. that type of situation is a risk of playing in the league. The players are paid millions and that's part of the risk of being in the NHL.

What isn't part of the game is the undefended cross checks from behind... the stick retaliations to the head etc. Those offenses are criminal offenses and the player needs to be removed from the league.. face criminal charges and then and only then can he continue in NHL after he has paid the price under the law . In this specific case Simon should not be back in the NHL until he faces criminal charges. He has had no treatment and has faced no disciplinary actions under the law.

At the very least there should be a league-wide vote among the league's PLAYERS (the offenders peers) themselves after an event like this to determine whether the offense was a malicious attack or whether it was within the definition of a "clean" hit that's part of the game of hockey. If it's voted to be an offense clearly not acceptable in the game of hockey... then they must face the consequences in the justice system outside of the sport.

Simon wasn't suspended 22 games. The announcement of his punishment has not been made yet, the news reporting 22 games IS WRONG.

Aside from that, I do believe he should be suspended the rest of this season and the next, at least. There should be no place in hockey for incidents like this one, Bertuzzi should've never been allowed to play again for his attack and ruining Steve Moore's career.

I do agree that 22 games is bogus but i do not think calling it attempted murder is a really the smartest thing... there was definitely an intent to injure and i belive that the move that Simon made should have him banned from professional ice hockey for life... just like bertuzzi should be allowed to play either... i understand aggressive playing like sean avery but dirty players are a different story...i am an aggressive player when i am on the ice but i do not try to delibrately hurt my opponents....it is part of the game to be physical to overcme your opponent to gain control of the puck and help your team but when the puck isnt even there u shouldnt be swingin your stick

25 video games a minimum of. Simon slew-footed Ruutu, then stomped on his ankle while he replaced into down. He could have severed Ruutu's tendon. apparently, even the Islanders homestead television commentators are bored stiff with Simon and his ethical experience efforts to injure gamers. the guy has some rage matters. Ruutu had an come upon with Simon earlier interior the activity. Uh, FSN Pittsburgh cameras weren't following it (they have been following the %., that's what they ought to have been doing) yet Ruutu and Simon have been down on the ice. Bob Errey mentioned it gave the impact of they have been "rolling interior the hay" at the same time. Lol, wow. I do have self belief Ruutu purposely fell on good of him nevertheless. So Simon replaced into already seething. Now, i'm no longer asserting Ruutu's a hero or on the instant in charge for the win by way of fact i be attentive to he's merely filling the situation he's paid to and he's merely attempting to stay interior the lineup or perhaps benefit greater ice time... yet for this reason i like Jarkko Ruutu. (on the Pens, of direction... i'm specific i would not like him as plenty if he performed for yet another team!) Ruutu could have paid truly a value, had he been injured, just to attraction to a penalty in a activity that his team had the lead in. Agitation is an paintings and that i think of he's one between the desirable pests interior the activity immediately. Admittedly nevertheless, I watched this activity with a chum and we did no longer provide Ruutu the excellent thing correct to the doubt; we thought he replaced into faking an harm in the beginning up, by way of fact FSN Pittsburgh's digital camera zoomed in on the top a million/2 of his physique as he lay on the ice. Then Simon skated away, the ref got here visiting, and unexpectedly Ruutu replaced into clutching his leg. i thought he replaced into faking it like Barnaby. Haha.

look again bozo. And this time consult a REAL hockey web site. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=199575&hubname=

Melo was also kicked out of the all freak game too. Cost him endorsement deals worth millions.

Cheap shot yes criminal no....And as for Bertuzzi the punch tied up the legs and both fell with Bertuzzi on top of him. His suspension was honored by European leagues during the lockout so he couldn't play there at all.

It's not attempted murder.... you're exaggerating everything.

If you want to see attempted murder, look at what Bertruzzi did you Moore in 2004. Threw his head into the ice.

That's a lot more severe then getting a stick to your chops.
