Well, I think there may be separate copyrights on the music. There's the published sheet music and then there are separate copyrights on any recorded performance of that music (if someone took out a copyright for it).

I guess I'd start by checking out the credits on the record, cassette, cd, dvd, etc.. There should be the name(s) of the songwriter(s) and then there should be the name of the company, corporation or individual(s) that copyrighted the work. (It should have that circled "c" indicating copyright and maybe a date)

When you have that info, you can search them out on the web and probably find contact info.
There might be a website that has most or all of the info you seek, but unless someone is making money compiling and storing it (or is publicly-funded), you might not find one.

Every record, tape cassette, CD, or hard copy sheet music has a copyright notice on it. It'll have the "c" either capitalized or encircled, the year and the name of the person or entity that owns the rights. This is the case for any intellectual property.

If a copyright is registered, it's with the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.. Maybe they could shed some light on your question. Please note, not all copyrights are registered.

On CDs, copyrights are listed alongside the track titles. Otherwise you can ask the provider (a legitimate one, of course).
