I think gay and lesbian are still politically correct. I'm not offended by 'lesbian'.
Transvestite is no longer used. The umbrella category is 'transgender'.

"Gay and Lesbian people" - are people. If you are doing research for your class, you should be reading information from the web at least, so that you can gather information instead of opinion. I may be out of line here, but what teacher/professor in their right mind would offer this subject as a possible project?

They were called queer, sissies, poofters, poofs and pansises(these are just teh ones I know about). All depended on where you lived in the world. You should watch two documentaries('BEFORE STONEWALL', 'AFTER STONEWALL') if you can which will be very helpful to you. They will educate you on GLBT history. but now we just like to be called humans although we are proud of who we are
