This is hopefully my last question about installing XP on a Vista. Thank you all so much for your advise/help.

Since desktop PCs and notebooks have different hardware, if I replaced Vista with XP, would I have a higher chance of compilations with a notebook than a desktop? Or vise versa?

Thank you!

It is a Gateway notebook.

It depends compeletely on your PC and notebook. The brand and the model, both are important. In my opinion, you should refer to the catalogs or contact the vendor.

It is not going to matter whether it is a laptop or desktop. You will still have complications. Best is to Junk ALL Windows products, and install a good open source product instead because:
1. Open source is more secure.
2. Open source is more reliable.
3. Open source is faster to install and use. Kubuntu, for example will get you online in 10 minutes, while it will take about 2 hours to install and format Windows XP.
4. Open source has 114,000 fewer virii that infect it than Windows.
5. There is never a hassle activating open source, and no long 16 digit codes to enter.
6. With open source, You can share the CD's with your friends without being considered a crook. Instead, your friends will thank you.
7. You can try Kubuntu live, without installing it on your hard drive. If you could do this with Vista, most people would not have installed it.
8. With open source, It is easier to back up your data, because Windows makes it a pain in the neck to copy because they are worried about pirating software.
9. Open source is cheaper now, and cheaper later. How about free? You can also get more open source software, such as open office for free at www.openoffice.org
10. Get it at www.kubuntu.org

I think you mean complications......

Anyway, neither should be more difficult than the other to install
