I think that right at this moment they're not obsolete but they'll become useless in a couple of years. I mean, there are people in the world that still can't afford an internet connection, or that live in a place where the internet hasn't got there yet. There are other that just don't get along with computers so they rather buy cd's. I think they will always be cd's but it'll become a minority and might even dissappear from the music industry, who knows. But I heard somewhere that new cd's are coming out with much more capacity and much more secure.

So, a few generations from now probably won't know what cd's are.

To me as a playable media, yes... it's obsolete. I have all of my music on my computer and play it with my iPod. However as a transferable media it hasn't quite gone the way of the cassette tape. I still buy CDs from time to time, but only from bands that come through my town and aren't well known enough to be on iTunes. I buy the CDs and promptly rip them to MP3, never to touch the disc again.

not entirely, but I haven't bought a cd in a looong time. the only time i will buy an actual cd is when i really like the band and want to literally have it in the case and everything.

My collection is collecting dust. I have not bought a CD for years - the only CD I use is for my car stereo.

No, They are obsolete because of Limewire mostly because that is illegal, and free.. People are too cheap to pay money for CD's.

No. I still listen to my CDs and have no intrest in an iPod or any other MP3 player. Besides where do you get the music to put on the iPod? Most get the CD and put it on their computer still.
