It costs you only if you self-publish. This does not count as publication in writing circles since anyone with money can do it and any kind of junk can be printed.

To get a book truly published, you need to be accepted by a publisher who pays you royalties and does not charge you for publication. Your best reference book to find these is WRITERS MARKET.

You can also find smaller royalty paying publishers by looking at the bestseller lists on www.fictionwise.com. These small publishers are publishing quality books or they wouldn't be bestsellers. Find their websites and see what their submission guidelines are like.

It cost me $2,985.00 to get my book published the way I want I still have to pay for the advertisements and the inventory I want on hand. I don't have a Degree in any thing either, but it isn't my career. I don't think there is much money in it unless you have a great book that gets well known..

There's a company owned by amazon.com called BookSurge (you can find it via google.com). They charge about $500 to $1000 to produce a book that will be listed on amazon.com. I've seen their products and they are quite professional--their paperbacks have custom covers, barcodes, and look just like what would come out from a mainstream publisher. Hope this helps.

In order to publish a book, you need to demonstrate you are somewhat literate. Judging from the format of your question, the lack of capitalization and the misspellings, I'd say you have a long way to go.

You need a Literary Agent to pitch your manuscript to a publisher that may be interested in publishing it.

If you get a Literary Agent, he or she, can submit your manuscript to publishers that may be interested in reading the manuscript.
