Weeds are legal. However, one weed in particular, Marijuana is not, though it should. But then, the government couldn't profit from it because everyone that wanted it could grow their own. Unless of course, they'd regulate it by making it legal to use but illegal to grow.

If it was legal, then it could be regulated and more money going into the government. WE could ensure it's not laced or lined with anything and it would create more money for law enforcement to get the harsher drugs off of the streets. Plus, the cookie companies would have to sell more, so more jobs could be created. Win, Win

What would have to be done to legalize it? Would go for this idea?
We can double the education budget in one year by legalizing pot.
We currently spend $12.8 Billion on Education as projected for 2008. We spend $1.6 billion nationally (who knows state by state) on the war on drugs, and $4.92 billion on prisons. By legalizing it let me lay down some math for you. We could double the budget for education in 1 year. Conservatively say 10% of the population spends $50 a week (probably more like $150). That generates 1.35 Billion a week for agriculture as a gross, if we taxed it 25%, that would mean we could ad $337,500,000 (that’s 337Million) a week into education, calculating to an initial first year budget increase of $17.7 Billion.
Double the current budget of $12.8 Billion for 2007, increasing to 13.2 Billion for 2008.

There are 2 other things that need to be in the legislation. It should be defined as legal only as a US Agricultural crop. Importing would be illegal. There would have to be a new department within the department of Agriculture to specifically deal with the process of getting a product from seed to shelf, in a way that can be regulated fairly and taxed for education. Amnesty should be awarded to relieve the already overburdened corrections systems nationwide and to encourage professionals to come forward as agricultural consultants or themselves farmers.

Lets start with de-criminilization, which would keep people out of jail and maybe face fines for various levels. Baby steps. Yes, it should be legal, but it won't happen all at one time.

yes, it's not a narucotic and it's not made from harsh chemicals. we could regulate it so it couldn't be laced, and we would be out of national debt in a matter of a few years because every one on teh block would spend their paychecks on it. not to mention krispy kremes and taco bell would rise to the top of the world in money from munchie attacks.
