An independent person does what what he wants and thinks what he wants, regardless of others agreeing or disagreeing with him. This does not mean that the person is unreasonable or that he doesn't listen to others. This means that he makes up his own mind.

An independent person generally uses his cognitive abilities to decipher patterns in similiarities and choses to opt out of the status quo.

an independent person, is one who keeps to him or herself. they rely or depend on other people to do something for them. Usually these are people who become business leaders or something in that field.
