Thats a very sweeping statement - i also believe prostitution is widespread virtually everywhere.
neither Thailand or Russia are considered in the west yet they are reknowned for prostitution.

prostitution has been there frm pretty much the beginning of time, theres more to being civilised than the absense of prostitution. having said that i dont think the west is more civilised, its just different. I think its quite arrogant to say that the west is more civilised & kinda ignorant. yes wer civilised in some ways but perhaps not so much in other ways

Who says sex isn't civilised? Just because people pay for it, it doesn't mean it cant be a civilised affair.
PS: i don't like prostitution but i do see both sides.

Every major civilization has had prostitution. There's a reason why it's referred to as the 'world's oldest profession', and that's because it is.

Why do you think civilization and prostitution don't mix? I would say that civilization and rape, murder, or subjugation of other people don't mix, but prostitution, at least consensual prostitution, is just part of commerce..

Well, some of our hookers are extremely civilized, that is they exercise great manners and often are very gracious and polite.
