Peace has only ever been achieved by war, force and the projection of military might. Ask yourself this; if we disbanned our military and swore to never fight for anything again, would the rest of the world let us live in peace?

I asked this question because many Libs support this idea. I just want people to think about what America would look like without a military.
And please don't tell me that you support the troops, just not the mission. That makes you an idiot.
BTW-I am currently on my 19th year in the military.

ITs not a matter of what America would be like. America just wouldn't be....period. About 10 minutes or so after making this moronic decision, we would have so many alligators up our *** we would completely forget about the swamp. We have what everybody wants-freedom, natural resources, and stuff-lots of stuff. I doubt if the party crowd in Hollywood would care to be relieved of all their goodies, but these pie-in-the-sky nitwits are and have always been living in another world. The country would be inundated from the south in about 15 minutes plunging the nation into poverty not seen since the great depression with no way to stem the tide. Wars would break out around the globe on a scale once deemed unimaginable as there would not be anyone left to stop them or defend defenseless human life on any type of humanitarian scale since we would be barely hanging on ourselves. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst-always has been a good survival technique. Not holding your head in the sand and hoping everyone suddenly plays nice and lets by-gones be by-gones. Think like that long enough and we "will" be gone-forever.

We should never disband the military. That doesn't mean we can redeploy what we have or get the hell out of where we shouldn't be in the first place. Military should be for defence not offence. Our military should have been unleashed on Bin Laden and Al Qaeda not Iraq. This is where people tend to confuse what people are saying. Simplistic minds say all or none but those who are educated and think know that it isn't as simple as some make it out to be.
We have reduced our military in the past and have become isolationist and that merely resulted in world wars.
We are not the only imperialists. Others would like nothing more than to take us over. So we need a strong military to defend ourselves against those who ACTUALLY attack us.

Hell no! We should not disban the military! The United States is probably the most hated country on Earth right now. If we didn't have a military who would protect us? That would also cause a lot of people to suddenly become unemployed. Let's not forget how military bases help the economy in the area they're located.

Okay. I don't agree with the first point you have made. Peace is acheived by being peaceful, and yet showing you will self-preserve, answering in kind to any force leveled against you. You don't pick fights in a school yard to make sure that no future fights erupt. That's just silly.
And, if we disbanded the military, we would eventually be absorbed into (an)other nation(s). So, whether we would have peace is purely conjecture, based on whether the people who absorbed us were warlike, or not.
First rule of Force as a means to get/keep power: It never lasts. However, disarming is rediculous, as is a policy of constant pre-emption.

You must live in Cali. No we would be killed in two days. We are the most hated country in the world because we allow our corrupt government impose its ideals on other people. We forced our way into most wars or just started them just because they don't live how we live or believe what we believe. Our politicians are greedy. Why else would a multi-millionaire spend millions to get a lesser paying job? Kick backs and government handouts and contracts that go to their own companies. Look at our vice president. His company is the only one rebuilding Iraq, Oh wait don't he own a gasoline company too? If you look threw government here you will understand we are prisoners of war in our own land and we need military to protect us from others making choices for wealth not for our best interest. Why else would our own politicians spend billions in foreign aide when we need billions in our own land to make our country's living conditions better. We should lock down borders cut off foreign aide and take care of our own. Let the rest of the world solve their own problems.

The word is disband.
And that's a damn good idea.
Well, until you realize there's literally millions of troops under arms around the world, many of whom serve under governments who just don't like the fact we're on the planet.
So,no,we won't live in peace,if we're allowed to live at all.
Here's your sign...

"I asked this question because many Libs support this idea." Feel free to chime in with a source to back up this claim, pal.
"And please don't tell me that you support the troops, just not the mission. That makes you an idiot."
No- an inability and/or unwillingness to recognize an impasse when you see one makes YOU an idiot.

No. We have an obligation to have a standing army to provide for our defense. What would prevent others from attacking us at will, such as the USSR and China?

nope. most countries would see it as an opportunity to defeat the great usa, and we would be left defenseless. it would not be a very smart idea. by the way, i dont support the war either (but i do support the troops!)
