Criminal justice major is really for those who want to go into policing, probation, and corrections. Normally people don't get hired right into an investigator position except at federal level so you will probably have to work as a police officer first for a while. At the federal level, the applicant pool is flooded with people with CJ degrees and since it's not a specialized degree such as engineering, they do not really stand out. Besides, once you get hired, they will teach you everything you will need to know at the academy anyway.
If you are not sure about working in the three areas I have mentioned (policing, probation, corrections), maybe you should give other majors some thought because there isn't a high demand for CJ majors outside of law enforcement.
