the ulnar styloid process of my right wrist has a hairline fracture on it. If you don't know what that is, you go straight down your pinky until you reach the bump thing on your wrist. well that thing can't receive any kind of surgery. i work out a lot, and most exercises i do require support from the wrists. i cannot continue to support with this wrist, as it is just too painful. i don't want to give up working out. is there anything i can do?

if it is truely just a "hairline" crack, then it should heal in 6 to 8 weeks and your symptoms should get better thereafter. however, sometimes you may also tear the TFCC (triangular fibrocartilage complex) that sits at the base of the ulnar styloid (but not likely with a hairline fracture). this can give you some chronic symptoms and needs to be addressed/diagnosed most often by a hand surgeon and a MRI.
if the ulnar styloid completely breaks off, it may go onto a non-union (no bony healing) which can cause pain.

A lot of times physical therapy will consist of working out the other arm because, to some extent, the body will compensate to keep you relatively symmetrical. Meaning if you broke your right arm, continue working your left arm and your right arm will not atrophy as severely.

Of course, your right arm will get a little weaker in the meantime, but you really cannot work out with that arm or you will simply continue to damage it and your healing time will just get longer and longer.

Let me inform you that if it is a hair line crack than their should be no pain unless & untill it has fractured. You should see a doc because as a doc I know you have torn your ligament or having collis crack.
