If u maintain some powers and abstain others (ie the USA) then it could be possible. You must atleast combine social programs. However, I would be sad if you abandoned your heritage! Keep your flags flying regardless of the EU. I hear there is a movement to tighten the original EU nations first and force the others to adjust to gain the additional benefits. The plan seems logical; give it a chance.
An optimistic American
oh yes and keep up the good work fellas. I heard the EU has agreed to meet 30% of energy needs with green power.

For goodness sake - we're not Americans, we don't go in for banner worship.
The Union Jack is a piece of cloth. The EU flag is a piece of cloth. both quite pretty, either could only been seen as offensive by the small minded.
*****CLIVE H - POINT OF INFORMATION *****
The Victorious army at Waterloo comprised the British, Dutch and Prussians. Wellington played down the role the Dutch played in the Allied army after the battle and had artists concentrate on British contributions to the battle when they depicted it. Even in those days we had spin!!

What Britain should do is stop sitting on the fence and join the continent.
Yes, you may lose some sovereignty such as the Pound and you may have to fly the EU flag alongside the Union Jack (the EU nations still fly their own flags if you actually took the time to do some research), but it will mean a more stable, secure, and prosperous Europe (and I include Britain in that term).

Well I hate the Union Flag as Wales is not represented properly on it. So I would not be sad to see it go.

Do not worry, I cannot ever imagine the day when the Union Flag no longer flies over the Palace of Westminster. The flag signals that Parliament is sitting. The EU flag would not do because it is not the EU parliament it is the British Parliament.
What if the English decide to have their own parliament? Surely the English Flag of St. George.
The Union Flag remains top dog flag in UK and in Europe except most Europeans seem conveniently to have forgotten that it was the Union Flag carried by the British Army which got rid of Napoleon and his Grand Armee from most of Europe culminating at the Battle of Waterloo, where the Union Flag flew victorious of that field of honour.
Down with the EU flag.

never I hope! Each country should fly ONLY its national flag, don`t even want union jack.
How dare you thumb down all anti european answers. Just because you want your backwards 3rd world country to join the english gravy train. I say english because the scots and welsh only take in about 5% of immigrants to these shores, and besides they take a lot of money from the country they all despise.

Great question, knowitall. You've outed all the little Englanders and petty racists who think that a flag is more important than political issues.
Mojo's right - it's just a piece of cloth.
