Compare the following on her PC and your laptop:
Size of Hard Drive.
Processor speed.
CD/DVD?
Did she get a monitor?
Guarantee?
She can always upgrade to XP but should of asked for it at the time, maybe the guy would install it if she asked?

If she is entitled to the XP hard drive, then tell him to give it back or you will call the police. Also, did you get copies of the Windows 2000 or XP operating systems?? It is illegal for him to sell Windows without proper licensing.

Windows licensing goes with the PC sometimes (there will be a Microsoft hologram sticker on it somewhere), or the licensing is OEM, meaning it is installed when the computer is sold.

Did he give you the licensing info and documentation for the Windows OS's???

If you are not satisfied, cancel the deal, have him take back the stuff and refund your money, the report him to Microsoft if he is not following thier licensing standards.

Did he say the laptop was top of the line or the software also?

You should put more info in your question.

AND - if this guy does not have a 'store' business building - next time go to a store.

Check out the speed (In Ghz) and the size of the hard drive. See what kind of CD/DVD they have (read only, read/write. how fast). It sounds like she got ripped off - the clue was Winows 2000 when it's now 2007.

Go to this web site and choose to run the full tests. Setup an account its free.

http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp

The program will test all your system components and at the end of the test give the system a rating.

This is an easy way for the less techie user to get an idea of his/her systems capabilities. It also offers to adjust settings at the end in order to improve performance.

Post your findings and i will give you my honest opinion of the system.

can you get the following infomation form each please and i can tell you whats better.

What processor is it? (and speed if possible)
How much memory dose each have? in MB (like 512MB etc)
What video/graphics they have.
and how much hard drive space they have each.

Yes Windows 2000 is a bit old now a days but still works. best advice is see how well each computer dose at things like, burning a CD or playing back a DVD.

What problem? That she paid what he asked for the PC?

How do you know her PC is less good than your laptop? Maybe she's got top-end kit in her desktop and your laptop is a cheap heap?

Wrong attitude there.
