wow i got a new hamster for the house yesterday lol
i looked at a few sites as i had hamsters when i was young but not for a few years.
mine is same as yours by the way running and funny noise i was advised to just stroke it for a few days to let it get used to hands and then maybe feed it a treat after a few days put your hand out straight and let it walk on your hand.
my daughter who is 7 has been doing this to i will get the link and post it here for you to read in a minute when i find it.

What type is she and how old is she? Hamsters are very fast and shy most of the time. I'm in the process of taming a 5 week old rescued female hamster ( she was kept in very crowded conditions at a private home and not handled). It's going to take at least a week up to a month to tame her. Start be offering a sunflower or peanut as a treat. You can even place a could a couple in your hand and let her climb into your hand. Then scoop her up with both hands cupped around her. Holding her is one of the best ways to tame her, but don't chase her around the cage, let her come to the treats. Then pick her up, make sure to hold her near your body so she won't be so scared. In addition to the above baby, we're also working on taming a baby gerbil and 3 - 3 week old hamsters. The hamster mom seems to enjoy the alone time, even if it's only for a few minutes.

I agree with everyone else. She's probably just nervous because she's used to living in the pet store with her other siblings and every morning a hand reached in, changed their bedding and food and water and then left them alone. No one has probably ever really tried to hold/pet her. Give her a couple of days to settle in and then slowly try to get her used to you. When you go up to the cage talk quietly to her saying "Good hamster, how are you today?" and stuff like that. A lot of rodents can't see very well but their hearing and sense of smell are great so she'll get used to your voice and smell. Also try giving her small treats like a sunflower seed (not too many they're fattening), Cherrios, Rice Krispies, or a peanut. Once she has settled in and used to your hand in her cage, try gently lifting her out. Hamsters are animals of prey so when this giant thing comes lunging at her that's probably why shes scared. Pick her up and maybe place her on your lap and speak softly to her and give her a treat. She will soon get used to all of this and be your friend in no time. One other thing, she will get better with age. Most young hamsters are very active and don't like to be held much but as they get older they are content to just sit and venture around on your lap. Good luck with your new pet! =)

I had a hamster when i was younger and he was scared of me at first, he wasn't handled much in the pet shop and when i came along he just wasn't used to people. It will take a while for her to become used to you and to feel safe in you hands. When you go into the cage don't startle her, allow her to come to you rather than picking her up, offer her treats (but be careful she doesn't mistake you hand as a tasty treat). Avoid loud noises! and then when she starts to trust you enjoy!! Ps it may be worth investing in some plasters as it takes time to bond oh and try not to flick her across the room when she bites.

You have to give her time to get used to you. Make sure you do not pick her up until she is happy with you. Place your hand in the cage and do not make any sudden movements, also, give it a few days she has to get used to your scent. You must pick her up by two hands and make sure you support her bottom although this cannot happen until she has got used to your scent so you need to rub the sawdust in her cage between your hands, which will leave your scent on it. Also, keep placing your hand in the cage and then start feeding her from your hand, although this will take a few weeks. She will make a noise because she is not used to being handled. Have patience and leave her until she gets used to you. My hamster was very timid when I brought him home so I know how this feels. She will trust you in the end.

Ha ha! Aww, so cute, caring if a hamster likes you. It probably likes you, but is afraid of the new environment, because you are so big in comparison. When you pick it up, do that from behind so they can't see how big you are, and hold it face away from you so it just feels held, and not overwhelmed by your size.

She just needs to be tamed a little bit, hand feed her, and give her a lot of attention-- once she gets used to you it will be easier and easier to catch her. Hamsters and other animals from pet shops dont ever recieve any attention-- thats why they arent used to big humans like us! She is just scared!

she's a little shy. Just pick her up every day, and give her a sunflower seed, or some treat to make her more confortable. Don't worry, animals sometimes take time. Good Luck!
