i have a vauxhall vectra 1.8 LS 1997. when i am driving in 1st,2nd or 3rd gear at low revs,i get a high pitched blowing/whistling noise from underneath my car. it lasts for a few seconds then goes away as i get faster. its just passed its MOT but its doing my head in !!!!!! Any ideas ?????

It could be a leaky vacuum hose. If your idle is rough, then it is very likely a leaky vacuum hose.

Another possibility is an alternator or water pump problem. If a bearing is going, it could make whistling noise.
