Star Wars fans.......?

Question

This is an ongoing debate between me and my hubby everytime we watch Star Wars. My hubby thinks that Mark Hamill is the weakest thing in it and I think his acting has been much maligned over the years and got unfortunately stuck with Luke Skywalker.

What do you think, is he crap or good?

GOOO!!! hubby. Mark Hamill is full of crap. Sorry to crush your spirits but your hubby is right.

Well, he left Hollywood to keep from being type casted as Luke. He spent a few years acted on Broadway. He starred in Amadeus, The Elephant Man, Harrigan and Hart, and other plays, for which he received positive reviews. He gone on to act in Corvette Summer, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, The Big Red One (in which his role as sharpshooter Griff is considered by some to be his finest film performance), so I’d agree with you. I’ll bet hubby hasn’t seen him in anything except Star Wars, but was he weak in Star Wars, or was the character just weak? I never thought the Luke character was a really strong character, in most of the Star Wars movies most of the acting take a seconded seat to the Special effects. They have NEVER gotten the best of ANY of the actors in the Star Wars movies.

So I’ll go with you.

I have only seen him in five movies and four of those he played Luke Skywalker and the fifth one he stunk. But, tell your husband to look closely at Vader and see how he keeps changing in body type and how Leia aged a lot in a short piece of time. There is alot to see there. And at least Hamill didn't ham it up as much as Hayden did as Attakin.

He played the part of a weak tortured young man ok but never quite pulled off the Jedi Knight thing. He was acted off the screen even by C3PO and R2D2 - Harrison Ford, Alec Guiness and even Carrie Fisher were far better actors, Having said that I will not trivialise his role in making one of the most watchable and exciting series of films ever

He is definitely not crap, I thought he was a very good actor especially for the part of a Jedi. Maybe that your husband thinks he sucks because of his acting after Star Wars, but in Star Wars, I thought he was excellent. But, I thought the weakest link in acting of Star Wars would be Sio Bibble.

He is a weak actor im afraid. he was no way convincing as a jedi and you cant blame star wars for limiting his work afterwards! look at harrison ford? he never got tagged with being just Han Solo. Hamill always came across as an actor whose dad was owed a favour by George Lucas lol.

I've always been partial to the female characters. Princess Leia was always my favorite, and her "consort" Han Solo. Darth Vader was also great, he's my husbands favorite. As for Luke/Mark, I don't care one way or the other.

I didn't like him as Luke Skywalker or any other role he's ever portrayed. I like the original trilogy fine but I cannot sit through his scenes.

I can't think of who would be a good replacement though.

I didn't like him. Hans solo and Vader were the interesting characters. If Hamill was a great actor he would have got other roles one way or the other.

He is not crap but not great either he reminds me of Keano Reeves a bit wooden. These are not the droids your looking for move along move along
