Emo (how it is percieved by many) is being dark, gothy, and cutting. Emo actually means emotional and just really means that your moody and have a tendency to go from one mood to the next very fast. Or at least that's how it was originally. It's not really cool.

emo means emotional.
usually, emos are depressed, and have the symtoms of depression, such as crying frequently, not being able to be happy, when givein happy news, dosen't really smile much, ect.
They might cut themselves, but not all emo kids do that. (although alot think they do). They usually wear blackish, dark clothes.(most speak their emotions though what they wear)
Theres a difference between emo and goth though.
I find this vid really funny, but parts of it could define emo =)

emo stands for emotional and the term came from a type of music a couple decades back called...emotional music. the singers would get emotional while playing and hence the name. now its used to describe 'emotional' girls and boys. they are usually depressed teens that are stereotyped as self-harmers. people dont think they are cool, many of their peers find them depressing and annoying and avoid them.

It's not cool...wow ur out of it. Emo stands for emotional. It's a style and an attitude. Many of them slit their wrists and have emotional highs and lows.

It's so not. As near as I can tell, it's pretty much "goth" meets "skater dude".
They're charactarized by long fringy black hair in the eyes, beat up Chuck Taylors, tight jeans and (for the girls) heavy black eye makeup.
Many of them are into dark poetry, and self harm.
I wondered that myself, and I got this off of Wikipedia.

emo - short for "emotional." Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock.

and if they feel something they'll do something without even thinking about what they're doing.

later became associated with bands like dashboard confessional which became associated with tight pants, lip rings, and straight ironed hair.

usually emo is a guy who is skinny, wears skinny jeans, listenes to hard music and has a cool haircut..that makes him cool
