Same problem with J&J - it's the alcohol in them that dries the skin.
"Angel Baby" Organic Products are great!

Most of the national brand baby products are chock-full of chemicals, alcohol, and other drying agents. There are even several childrens' shampoos on the market right now that have ingredients that are currently proving to be cancer-causing!! (see link below) This is NOT the same urgan legend from a few years ago naming Sodium Laurel Sulfate as a carcinogen.
I have chosen to go with all-natural and organic products. Avalon Organics, Nature's Gate, Weleda, Burt's Bees "Baby Bee", California Baby, Earth-Friendly Baby.... there are many, many products out there that are much gentler on babies' sensitive skin.
Also, it's a misconception that babies should be soaped & shampooed daily. Many babies' skin cannot handle using cleansers that often. Try bathing every other day, or maybe bathing with soap & shampoo one day, but plain water only the next.
Good luck, and enjoy that precious baby boy!

I work with health visitors and they do not recommend Johnson's at all it contains alcohol and petrochemicals
Wash your baby with nothing in the bath and if he is dry try aequas cream or E 45 or diprobase. Apply moisturiser often twice a day or more if you can.
You could try a baby massage class(or get a book) we are all trained instuctors and recommend sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil both are great for a babies skin and the massage is very good for both of you.

My daughter was very dry, and it gave her skin a rash. Her pediatrician told me that he was not a fan of Johnson's, and he told me to use Head and Shoulders shampoo, regular Dove soap, and Eucerin lotion. Since then, she's been much better. Although, we also just bought Aquaphor Gentle Baby Wash (made by Eucerin and available at Babies R Us), and that works wonderful, too!
Added: Her pediatrician also told me to only bathe her a MAX of twice per week. Extra bathing dries babies out!

When my baby was newborn he couldn't have the shampoo as it seemed to take a layer of skin off! From about 6 months old he could use it ok. Never used lotion or talc on him as his skin was ok without it. He's always been ok with their bubble bath. If your baby has a reaction to any product I would recommend you stop using it immediately as it's not agreeing with them.

If your baby's skin is really dry, you can still use Johnson's baby products, but try putting a capful of Baby Oil in the bath water too. It works with mine!

Yes but the Johnsons baby naturals range is very good esp the intense moisture cream. My daughter actually screams and cries if i put ordinary johnsons baby lotion on her and having tried it myself it does sting the skin. E45 baby products and Simple baby products are very good but really babys just need plain water to cleanse their skin and its our obsession with all things that smell nice that controls what we buy. If your cleaning them thouroughly with wipes at nappy change then water is all they need and a good old soak in the bath. The midwives in hospital only allowed me to use cotton wool and water to clean Holly when she was born and advised me to continue at home but of course i had bought loads of johnsons baby and am just using it up myself now but i dont like it and wouldnt buy it again , just feel guilty wasting the money.

My baby still uses that stuff I have never found that it drys out my son's skin. Although when he was younger I would put baby oil all over him as well rather then lotion and would even put a little dabble on his head to keep his scalp from becomeing to dry. Your son may have more sensitve skin and there for you are going to have to find products that are more gental on sensitve skin. Good Luck

My son is the same - used Johnsons once and it made his face all red and dry. The docs gave me Aqueous cream and Oilatum for the bath. I also use olive oil after his bath on his legs and arms for a bit of a massage.
