are they the same?
im currently choosing what highschool to go to, and im really leaning toward this really good highschool with an honors program. my second choice includes an AP (advanced placement) course in the highschool, but im wondering if those are the same.

Both school offer IB (international baccalaureate), but im not interested since only a few good universities in North America recognize the program. so, my question is, are they the same? should i go ahead and take the honor classes?

no, they're not. AP classes are usually taken during junior and senior year. those are harder and goes alot quicker than honor classes. plus, if u take AP courses, u'll have AP exams at the end of the school year. if u score a 3 or higher in any AP classes, u'll get college credits depending on the college.

Definitely take a few. You learn a lot more, but a lot more is expected from you. AP World History is relatively easy, but it's scary because it's the first AP course offered, for sophomores. A lot of the higher AP classes--like Literature, Physics, and Chemistry--that are for Seniors are the toughest. It all depends on the teacher, of course, but all of the ones I took were very tough. If you're savvy with math and science, try taking honors Chemistry and Physics, and then see if you want to take the AP courses (which are much more rigorous and intense) by the time you're a Senior. The same goes for Calculus. I didn't have much difficult with the English classes, but I'm studying English in college and much better at it, whereas I didn't take any honors math. It all depends on your strengths. History also has a lot of writing and memorization. Don't underestimate any of the AP classes.

They are similar but not the same. You stil get extra points for both Honors and AP for examplae: A=5 B=4 C=3 a D &F dont get extra points. In an AP class you could get college credit but in order for you to get the college credit you need to pass whats called an AP Exam.
I think you should take both because if you get good grades of Honors and AP classes it helps to raise your GPA.

Honors and AP classes are both considered advanced, but the AP classes are specifically preparing you to take the Advanced Placement exams for college credit.

Most colleges realize that honors classes vary in content and quality -- what is considered an honors class in one school might be considered a college prep course in another. Hence, they tend to discount their effect on GPA.
AP courses are required to have approved curriculua, and students are all preparing for the same final assessment, so the AP is looked upon more favorably.

Honors doesn't get you college credit (an AP class does if you score high enough on the AP exam in May). AP also weights your GPA more (5.0 vs. 4.5 for A's).
