Yes, there still is a large middle class in most developed nations.
At the same time statistics in most developed nations show that wealth and income is shrinking in all but the top 20% of the population. This has been occuring especially over the last 15 to 20 years. If tax and waste were the culprit (maybe it is) why doesn't it affect the top tier?
The fact that the people who are in charge of the rules of the game (politicians) of capitalist 'free market' nations are, by and large, millionaires themselves certainly doesn't put them in conflict of interest, does it? They are supposed to be regulating the system for the vast majority of the population, that is, the middle and working classes. As to the rich, the rich will always be with us....

Peace

Good starting point. The people who THINK they are the middle class are losing their pensions, savings, going into debt even with the lowest interest rates in history. They have less social networks and support, but larger salaries than their parents so they think they are OK until they get tripped up by life and file bankruptcy. (Meanwhile the rich ARE getting richer)

Depends what country you are refering to . In some countries ( like India ) there is no middle class . In America, the middle class is alive and well.

The separation of the classes is continuing. We have no one to blame but ourselves. We all want raises and not all jobs will support big buck salaries. Those jobs that will support it get the bucks and those that won't, usually go out of business or get shipped overseas. One of the reasons is that the Americans youth are spoiled. They want it all, they want it now, and they want it for free. They won't do jobs that are "beneath their dignity". It looks like it just gets worse in the future

If the media told you that clouds are filled with razor blades, would you believe them?
They get higher ratings by scaring people.

Welcome to populism.

Of course there is a middle class, look around you, that is a dumb question. Who do you think is buying all the XBOX 360's and shopping at Starbucks and Whole Foods? Who do you think is buying all those SUVs?

You are the reason politicians engage in demagoguery -- it works. Congratulations.

(Now go look up "demagoguery").
