Yes it can be unlocked, but it will only be usable on a GSM carrier such as Cingular and T-Mobile. It is NOT illegal as one person said. In fact, it was just passed not too long ago that cell phone carriers have to allow you to unlock it.

depending on where you live there may be a place where they do the unlocking for you. It is illegal so be careful who you ask. In NC there is a place called Air track devices that did it for me. Ask the people at the kiosk in the mall (any one but Cingular) and see if you can get one of them to hint it to you.
