Call around to nearby L&G Centers and ask for Tanglefoot for Birds or just Tanglefoot. The only difference is T for Birds is clear. Tanglefoot is about the stickiest substance you can find. You put a bead of it on the railings where they are landing and in 2 days they'll be gone forever. Birds can't stand to have sticky stuff on their feet and will avoid that area.

I usually recommend putting some masking tape on the railings (or wherever you need it) first so you can remove the tape and Tanglefoot when it is no longer needed but you can let it stay is it's out of sight. I put some on a gutterspout because they were building nests and doing their thing on our patio furniture. They left the very day I treated the spout. That was 2 years ago and they have never come back.

It gets to be a hassle moving snakes etc. when this works so well and it's a one time thing.

Even better than a scarecrow, as these have to be nearly life size and therefore ugly. If you are able to buy a stuffed hawk or owl or even an imitation one you will not see another bird on or even near your balcony. Perhaps if you contact your nearest airport, as they use these to keep birds away from the runways with great success. Please don't shoot them. Good luck. PS. I do have a very large cat going cheap..

I tried the rubber snake once and the birds not only landed right by it, after a while they picked it up and threw it off. And I moved the stupid thing around every day trying different poses to try to fool the birds. Crows are the worst....

make a scare-crow and put it up in the balcony....they dont normally fly around a human figure so it should keep them out!

My dad kept seagulls off his docks by tying fishing line a few inches above where the birds liked to land. You could add some fishing line a couple of inches above your railing. It did a very good job for my dad.

Go to the dollar store and get some rubber snakes and some feathers. glue a feather to the mouth of each snake so the down will move in the wind. spread out the snakes on branches where they sit and all birds will avoid the area.
