Thin glass is a better option because the inner and outer wall of a think glass vessal have a greater temperature diffrance and it causes the inner surface to expand more and if this expansion is enough it will break the glass. the thinner the glass the lesser the danger of damage.

Depends on what you mean... tap water hot to drink???? Thick glass so you don't get your hands too hot.... to pour boiling water into? - thin. With thick glass, the inside wall expands rapidly, but it takes a bit for the heat to get through the glass to the outside causing stress and likely a break or crack in the glass. Thin glass pretty well expands at the same rate...

Hot water effects both thick and thin glass...because glass expands when heated......However the thicker of the two will withstand the hot water better . While the glass is expanding it is also being warmed........The sudden impact of hot water on a thin cold glass will make it expand to rapidly and hence crack and possible break.....However...If hot water is to be put into a glass, the glass should be warmed first to allow expansion...the hot water can then be put into it....Thick or Thin.....safely...........

thin anybody who says thick is WRONG!

they hot water in a thin glass it will be fine sure its easier to smash but wine glasses, incredibly thick even though they seem thin, will smash everytime you drop them...

if hot water is put in a thick glass, like a wine glass, itll crack and eventually shatter

if you put a metal tea-spoon in a glass and then put hot water in, it won't crack, whether it's thick ot thin..
Wrap a napkin around it unless you want to burn your fingers though
