Both the Illusionist and The Prestige were about magicians, but The Illusionist was about an Inspector trying to prove a magician wrong.

2006 had two movies about a magician..
The first was the "The Illusionist" starring Edward Norton. It came out in late summer/early fall.
The second was "The Prestige" starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale.
Both had different plots though.
