I bought a second hand fish tank. It doesn't leak, as I've tested it but it's a hexagonal one and the piece of glass that holds the lid up on the one side has broken off. I've now got a couple of pieces of glass which I want to glue on the keep the lid up. It will not be in contact with the water. Can anyone tell me if it will be safe to glue this glass on using super glue? Whether there would be any chemical seepage from the super glue that could contaminate the water? Or what other glue would be safe to use?

Aside from any issues about toxicity, super glue, simply, will not keep glass glued together. Silicone glue is much more appropriate when gluing glass pieces together. As with any glue, it is chemical based and can be highly toxic if not allowed to dry properly, and some glues, when subjected to water or heat, can leech the toxins well after being dry. Even though you say that the glue will not be in contact with the water, it is still better to be on the safe side and get silicone glue specially made for aquariums. It is guaranteed not to leech toxic chemicals into the water. Also, keep in mind that, with hexagonal aquariums, the fact that they have less water surface means that you cannot put as many fish in them as you can with a rectangular tank of equal gallon size. Good luck!

NO NO NO glue, you can use aquarium silicone MAKE SURE ITS AQUARIUM GRADE. The better thing to do is to replace the entire pane that is broken not just do a patch job. Its always hard to gage the strength of cracked glass. If any of the cracks are not end to end they will spread with the weight of the water. Otherwise, you can only put water to within an inch or two below the break - ever.

What I do with second hand tanks is replace the entire broken pane, and redo all the seals. It takes about 1/2 hour and a $10 tube of silicone but it is worth it.

i reccomend just getting a new piece of glass cut. This can be done at any glass place (if you can get the shape you want cut traced it makes everyone's lives easier) Just make sure that you get the right thickness.
Aquarium sealant does not work very well for "glueing" things together because it's meant for sealing against leaks. It is very flexible and will probably not hold these two pieces together firmly.

the suited element you're able to do is look on the tank. If the sealent doesnt look love that's in super shape, then you definately can the two re-seal it, or bypass on the deal. To reseal a tank isnt not common, in basic terms desires slightly of time positioned into it. A 2d hand tank is each now and then extra desirable to purchase as they're extra less costly, and could even contain extra products than new. in basic terms provide it a good inspection, and in case you purchase it sparkling it. good success.

Don't use super glue. There is silicone expressly for aquariums.
Maybe it would be better to just replace the lid?
