will Bank of America still require a social security number from me to get an account?

There is no easy answer to this problem. Considering the variables of a multitude of non compatible scenarios that could arise during the implementation of your plan, I would first form a committee of experienced personnel to plan the logistics required to pull this off. You may need to hire professional makeup experts to obtain the look in order to fit into the proper profile category. You will need to establish some sort of presence in Mexico in order to prove that you actually weren't in the states the whole time. The process of making yourself known in Mexico could prove to be disasterous if you were to be arrested by Mexican authorities and held for a couple of years while they decided what they thought you were up to. You would probably be put to work washing and polishing cars and trucks that were stolen in the U.S. and are now being driven by Mexican authorities, governors, officers and banditos. Sneaking back in to the U. S. if you are ever released is the easy part. Cake walk, if you will. I hope you had plenty of time to learn the language during your stay because you will have to communicate fluently with the interpreter at the bank. No wait, if you try to communicate with the bank employees in English, you will need the interpreter. This doesn't get easier as you go. I am assuming you have cash to open your new account. If not you will need a job before you go to the bank. You will not be hired if you only speak english and a lot of places won't hire you unless you only speak Mexican. OK! NOW! - You are ready. You have the look, the cash, the language and the intestinal fortitude. You don't need a social security card to open an account at the Bank of Mexico. (You didn't know they changed the name of the bank while you were incarcerated in the Mexican goverment car wash?)

I think you mean 'renounce', not 'denounce'. Ok, semantics lesson over.

Don't know about B of A. Never used them. Had a friend who worked there and she hated it, so I've never banked with them.

They need your SSN for any reporting requirements.

You can just use any old SSN. You can buy documentation for $50. It's only us law-abiding US citizens who have difficulty establishing proof of citizenship.

Yes, so use a dummy number. Then they will call INS and these dudes will haul you back first class to Mexico, so make sure your Spanish is up to snuff.

As a fiscal conservative, I am against the U.S. Federal government dictating to a bank its policies in serving its customers.

You don't have to give a social- I'd refuse if others don't have to. but you do have to have a tax code #
which I assume you don't have since you have a social instead
