You have got to start somewhere to get over the shyness and being in an atmosphere where people are going to approach you for help will really help. Go for it, you may decide that you love it!!

Well, whatever you do, please be sure to talk more professionally in your interview. You can be a busser, where they clean the tables off, you probably won't get hired as a server, or you can be a hostess, which requires a minimum amount of effort. I would say the hostess job would do you good. You would become less shy over time because you're dealing with people. And from hostess, you can move up to server if and when you decide to. Serving can make you a fair amount of money for a 17/18 year old. Good luck.

I don't work there but I'm a year older then you but you should apply! The only way your going to get over your shyness is actually getting use to talking to people. So yah =) and they probably have spots like busboys that sets the tables, waitresses, cooks, and hostesses.

The best $$$ is waitress because of tips BUT you need to be the opposite of shy, be gregarious and outgoing . . . also super efficient.
For starters , apply for cashier or hostess , then work your way out of the shyness & move on to waitress.
