I kept his name until I remarried. It was just easier for my son and I. Plus it costs a lot to get everything changed back again. I think it's just personal preference.

If I had a really bad divorce I might have taken my maiden name back but we were still friends after the divorce. We just weren't good together.

that is legally her name and if she wants to keep it for whatever reason then she can. I know people who divorced without having kids and still continue to use their married name, with all of the hassle to change it to a married name to change it back will just confuse so many things.

If she likes the name and wants to keep it then go for it. Just an added benefit that the children will continue to have a mother with the same last name.

i believe that you should take your name back, it just that simple the children are his by blood and they already have his name, as for you time to see the future be you again thats beggining with your name and on all paper work, credit cards, bills etc. just another way of letting go. Even if you got back together the last name had nothing to do when you and him like or loved each other and is the same here if you are divorce!

I went back to my madien name, just b/c my son was so young and would not realize that we ever had the same name. It is totally up to you. The main reason I did was to become my own person agian. I am now just me not part of that horrid couple.

If she's been married a long time, she'll probably keep the name, just because everyone already knows her as Mrs. Soandso and she only need change the r. If not, she should probably change it, esp. if the divorce was messy. Cut of ties, thats it. And the kids---Mum's surname is John, Dad's is David, the kids are (name) John-David. see?

I think it depends on the individual. If I divorce, I think I would go back to my maiden name just because I had trouble accepting my name change in the first place. I wanted to hypen my 2 last names but my husband didnt want me to do that. He wanted me to have his last name only.

that is totally up to the woman........i would think she would have the kids keep their same last name just to make it easier on them and to keep things at home/school/work simplified, and she can decide what she wants to do for herself. i think that if she has a different name than her kids then this will only create problems. my mom kept her married name even though she hated my dad and blamed him for everything. all of my sisters and brothers and i kept out same names as well, so we all have the same last name as our mom. although i am getting married in october 2008 and plan on taking my fiances last name

My mom kept it just because she was getting remarried and didn't want to pay twice to change her name.

I would most likely change my name too, but I would use my mom's maiden name because I don't have anything to do with my father or his family.
