Hi, my daughter is nearly six months old and we have been weaning her for the past 3 weeks. She has now dropped one of her formula feeds as she has a fairly big meal of veg or rice and chicken. The problem is, she will not drink cooled boiled water, and the only juice she will drink is Hipp apple juice, which is of course the most expensive one !! It is costing me a fortune and wondered if there is any normal fruit juice or dilute I could give her ? obviously it needs to be sugar, e number etc etc free, cananyone give any suggestions ?? could I make juice ?

Just a little side note to say that i have only dropped one formula feed, she is now having 4 9oz bottles of formula along with 3 small meals of mush, so I am not starving her !!

Hiya, just a normal orange juice is fine, like even value cartons (cause that has no crap added). obvoiusly dont give it straight out the carton, water it down. Be careful if you give pure apple juice though because it can loosen the bowels if the child has too much. One diluted cup of that a day is about the limit. There is absolutely no need to buy so called 'baby juices' they are a rip off and probably contain more additives than pure juice.
Of course you can make your own juice, just avoid putting in too many grapes, as again they can have a laxative effect. Avoid Kiwi's also they have been linked to allergies. Just make your own smoothies and dilute it down. Im sure your little girl will love it!

I used to buy the heinz organic apple or summer fruits etc juice It about the same price as the hipp but a bigger bottle and just watered it down. Plus Boots are always doing 3 for 2 on heinz. My son is nearly 4 now and still drinks very waterly juice. The dentist says that is best for his teeth.

either water down fresh juice or at 6 months she can drink bottled water/tap water now anyway.
You can also try and make your own juices as thats just as good if not better.
Maybe even she's not particularly thirsty my little one (10 months old) has gone totally off water unless its being offered from my glass and drinks 3 8 oz bottles a day now as she is fully weaned but she's obviously getting more then enough fluids as her nappies are soaked at each change. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as she is still having wet nappies, u do have to remember though babies are clever things and your baby may have clicked on to the fact that you will eventually give in and give her the juice she likes as you want her to consume fluids with her food.

Just because her daughter has dropped a bottle doesnt mean the mother has taken it away from her - babies do decide they do not want a bottle and will drop a feed themselves. Anyway back to the question, try what most people have said, the half water and half juice, then over time add more water. She should be ok with this, and alot of people say it works - it worked wth my son too. Good luck, Lisa x

Up until my son was 11 months old I bought him all the expensive baby juices like Hipp. When I asked a friend when I should use normal juice she told me she`d been using Sainsbury`s own juice since he was about 4 months old. The Sainsbury`s normal apple dilute juice doesn`t seem to have much sugars, etc in it so I would give that a try, could have saved me a fortune if I knew!!!

You could try to make juice. Babies are picky. They aren't big fans of change. You may have to introduce juice and water many times before you give it to her. Also, the baby needs formula through the first year. You don't need to wean her just because she's started taking table food. Adult food cannot give the baby all the vitamins and nutrients it needs to continue to develop to the best of its abilities.
As for brands, try Juicy Juice. It's really good. Dilute it one part juice to two parts water. I don't know what to tell you about the water, but if the baby is taking her formula well, you don't really need to worry about it too much right now. Good luck.

Dilute the juice. Only give her 1/3 juice and then fill it up with water. If she decides she doesn't want it, don't give it to her and then when she decides she wants a drink bad enough, she'll drink it. She doesn't need all that juice anyways, she's so little. The water will do her good.

Hi!
Do what I did with one of my little ones ...
.. use the expensive apple juice for now, but each time dilute it more than the last, i.e. 75% apple juice to 25% water, then 70% apple juice to 30% water and so on, until she eventually is drinking very watered down apple juice.
Hope this helps!
Best of luck!

My daughter is 4 months old, I give her straight apple juice all the time. I usually give it to her after a feeding of rice cereal to help keep her regular. She loves it.. I just buy Gerber baby apple juice. She also likes Pear juice. Would you drink boiled water? the minerals in the pan are probably worse than the minerals in the tap. If you really don't like tap, just use bottled water. Anytime you want to compare notes, just send me a line, I'm a nurse and and new mom.

in parts 1:10 boiled coolwater use Robinsons Special R juice, Summerfruits, blackcurrant & apple or orange it's additive and sugarfree and a lot cheaper than the ready made juices which if you check are full of sugar. Or water down fresh apple or orange juice:o)
