Am I a nutcase?

Question

Please, I´d like you to tell me if you think I´m crazy or something´s wrong with me.
I´m a very conservative person, catholic. I´m against abortion, same sex wedlock and divorce.
On the other hand I´m economically liberal, and want more openess in America towards immigrants. I also feel we should do something to help Africa.I´m against death penalty, too. This is my problem: My conservative friends say I´m liberal _ I have shocked many of my frineds by telling them I love U2 ´, David Crowder and Mc Donald´s..!!!
On the other hand, liberals say I´m narrow-minded.
When Republicans won in 2004 I was glad because they have moral values, when they lost last year I was also glad because I dont like Bush´s foreign policy!
So, I seem not to fit anywhere!!!!!! I´m not comfortable with my liberal friend who talk all the time about dirty things and are obsessed with sexual matters, but I also dislike the attitude of those priggish people who think rock and roll is the devil´s music!

Relax - Nothing's wrong with you. You just happen to be in the "Independant" party. It's OKAY. You don't have to side with one party or the other, and agree with everything either party is saying - An intelligent person will have their own opinion about all things in that area, whether it happens to be conservative, or if it happens to be liberal. It's that simple.

So don't say "I'm liberal" or "I'm conservative". That's like someone asking you who you are and saying "I'm a banker, so money's most important to me" or saying "I'm a bartender, so I drink alot." These things may or may not be true.

You're not crazy. You're Catholic. There must be some way to find devout catholics who believe Jesus was about social justice. Also catholics have learned that people from all over the world can become one body. I think that helps us more easily overcome racism. We're more likely to have good relationships with immigrants. As you know catholic means universal. Anyone against abortion should be against the death penalty. Killing is wrong. The issue with abortion seems to be around whether an unborn child is a person and whether a fertilized egg is an unborn child. And what moral decisions does an individual get to make for themselves and which actions are so evil that the government must step in to prevent it.

But how do we find Catholics for social justice? Have you heard of a program called Just Faith? If not bring it to your church. Maybe if you search for groups of catholics for social justice or for the issues you care about on the internet you'll find what your looking for. I also recommend trying to enjoy differences in opinions. Try to really understand the positions of people who disagree with you but insist that they play fair and not label you narrow minded or anything like that. For help I recommend Non-Violent Communication--it's a book and a series of classes and practice groups.

You are not a nutcase. You sound like an individual who knows where they stand regardless of what faction believes in this or that. You have views that expand into both categories, so what! You should not be labelled by your friends for what you believe in. If the people you hang out with are indeed your friends, then they will stay away from the subjects that you do not see eye to eye on. They would also stay away from the material that make you feel uneasy. You are entitled to your opinion. They either accept you for you or they don't . Their loss.

I agree with your basic mind-set (although I disagree on some of the details)|

You sound like someone who is intellectually honest, who is trying to find the truth of things and the right balance of things|


You stand tall among so many who do not care about the issue of truth and right at all, as their motto is expediency and doing whatever it takes to get ahead whether it is fair or foul.

So if you are receiving criticism for what you stand for, you are on the right track, as you are bothering the expedient because of your stand, who swing far right or far left depending on what best suits their personal goals for personal gain|

The problem with this country right now is that you are either with us or against us, a red state or blue state, a redneck or a commie pinko liberal.
This good thing about America is that we are diverse and different.

Your not nuts. I am a very liberal conservative. I am strongly against are for the elderly and poor. I support the president. I would like to see more welfare programs that tare not self defeating. Hope it helped

I don't know a lot about politics in the US but I am aware of the kind of thing that you're going through.

Why do you have to fit in a group? Why can't you just believe what you think is right? Just have your own unique values!

On the contrary, I think that the fact that you are not as extreme as your friends makes you more normal. Try finding some friends who haven't chosen what they believe in, you might find it easier to talk to them. Otherwise, simply enjoy the different opinions of your current friends and find a chatgroup or something on the internet where you can freely express your thoughts.

Good Lord by the time I finished reading all that I forgot what the question was. They say if you think you're crazy then you probably aren't. You need to stop concerning yourself with what others think.
