Also the car makes this boiling noise and steam comes out when it overheats...can this also be from a bad radiator cap?

Yes it can on some models that are designed to have a high pressure coolant system. If the radiator cap is worn out or has to small a pressure rating, then the engine will not cool properly.

The radiator cap raises the boiling boint of the coolant in the cooling system, but would not CAUSE a car to over heat by its self.

I would be more concerned about a blown head gasket, or faulty radiator cooling fan.

Ive ruined a couple of engines from over heating them,so please don't make that mistake.Your over heating could be caused by a stuck thermostat, the easiest to fix,a blocked radiator,a blown head gasket, improper coolant mixture also can affect the temperature of your engine. If your not sure and don't know a good mechanic take it to a radiator shop to be tested.Good luck

it could be but most likely it is the thermostat that is in the top of the engine it is probably stuck closed which will make the engine overheat and the radiator get hot
