That is what you are supposed to do. Then lick out the creme and then dip the cookie part in the milk, taking care not to drop it in the milk, of course!! Thanks, Revivalist for the idea for this question!

Oh really?? I didn't know there were instructions on how to eat an Oreo!! lol. When I was younger I only ate the cream part and threw away the chocolate part. :P But now I dip the whole thing in milk and eat it. Yum Yum!

I unscrew two and eat the plain part dipped in milk then put the two with frosting together and dip that in milk.

When I was a kid my brother and I would un-twist 2 cookies and put the 2 cream sides together making a "double stuff" cookie before they had double stuff cookies. To this day I can't buy the double stuff cookies. I still get the regular ones and make the double stuff cookies myself! I guess it brings back childhood memories.
