Couple of ways to go.
Have used Muriatic acid ( inexpensive) to clean small area of brickwork of scale.
Somewhat nasty stuff , should protect yourself & any plants in immediate area.
Was used mainly on new construction.
Have had good results results w/ power washer on brick that was just dirty & mossy.
Worked fine w/ a general purpose cleaner that came w/ washer.
Large area , washer is way to go.

a pressure washer can do more harm than good ..remember your home is your most expensive possession..wife and kids excluded..so you must look after it .try this method ..i have many times ..start at top of wall ..you will need a wire brush ..a hose with a gun on end ..and of coarse a ladder ...do about a square metre at a time ..first wet wall..then wire brush wall doing one brick at a time ..keep area you are working on wet when you have done the metre ..give it a good wash off .now wait for a couple of days for it to dry out and you should see the difference..this should give you the encouragement to complete the task ..its not an easy method but it is worthwhile

There is a concentrated spray it is made by Rutland. it comes in a white spray bottle with a red brick design on front. It is a Brick and stone cleaner. You can get it at Lowe's. it is unbelievable. You may need two bottles for a big area.

Hi Uk builder here, Brick acid, you put it on with a brush and then wash it off, or use a power washer to wash it down. The brick acid loosens the mortar enough so as to wash away.
