Like if you went to a restaurant and you didn't like the beef or chicken they had. But you had ate almost 2/5 of the whole thing do you still get charged for it. And if the plate is $10 should you get charged for at least 2 or 3 dollars? And what would you say?

If you eat even a little bit of your meal and never send it back, you'll have to pay for it.
Best thing to do, as soon as you realize you don't care for it, is let the server know, so they can help you find a better choice to you liking, or remove it from the bill.
Some places may still charge you for the soup or salad you may have consumed.

Well, first off, you should have brought it to the attention of the server rather than eating 2/5h of it and then say something. If it's a reputable place who values their customers, they should take it back and either make it right or give you the option to try something else. Usually, they'll comp you for the dinner, or atleast take 50 % off the billl. even if they have a so-called written policy, if they value your business, they'll treat you right. Just don't get hard nosed about it and things will be fine. A good resturaunt wants you back and if you complain, they fix it. If not, don't go there again.

When the server comes back and asks "how is everything?" Tell them it sucks if it does, they can't read your mind and if your eating it they don't assume you didn't like it. I have cleared a table and noticed that someone didn't touch their food, but never told me that they didn't like it. I bring the uneaten plate to my manager, and they take that off the bill, you don't usually have to pay for it if you didn't like it, most places would rather try to make you something you do like, than to have you leave the restaurant and tell a friend that their food is gross. If you ate most of it and then complained, you might get a few bucks take off, but they will feel like your just trying to get your food for free, cause plenty of folks do that daily, it's not a new trick...

if you have ordered something you don't care for as far as i am concerned that is your loss... why should a restaurant have to take the cost of you simply not liking something... if it is spoiled or not what was described on the menu that is another thing... that being said... most restaurants will give you something else if you alert your waitstaff to the problem immediately.... if you don't like it stop eating it.... it is so rude to eat half of a meal then demand that something else be brought to you because you simply don't care for it... you sound like a pompous snob

You should have told them immediately that it wasn't to your taste. Most restaurants would let you order something else, and only charge you for the second order.

if you simply didn't like the way it was prepared, but it was
cooked properly ? shut up and pay.

If it was undercooked, spoiled, or not cooked as ordered,
send it back to the kitchen and/or get at least a partial refund.

In the future, eat somewhere else

well I would say it depends on the policy. if you really dont like it right away...tell them you want something else and I dont think that they will charge you for it. Get something you do like and keep the stuff you liked on the plate b4

Well, I would send my plate back to the chief and have it re-done just the way I like it. =)

If you did not like it - why did you eat 40%? You know with the first couple bites - not with 40%. Your loss, pal.
