Of course you want speed and power, junior! But if it's your first bike you need to start small. Look for a used SV650, Ducati 620, Ninja 500, or Suzuki GS500 that you can drop (and you WILL drop it) while you learn.

FAST comes with experience, not the angle of your wrist. An "underpowered" Aprilia 125 can smoke around 98% of all squids on their sick-@ss 'Busas and Gixxers with the right pilot.

I'm not sure where you live - if you are in the US, I would say a 500 cc sport bike would represent a good combination. There's the Suzuki GS500F, Kawasaki Ninja 500, and Buell Blast in that category. The Kawasaki is the fastest, the Blast has a belt drive and is designed to minimize maintenance needs, and I personally find the GS500 most comfortable (it's the one I ride).

If you're in Asia or Europe, I'm not as familiar with those markets.

i'd go for a 500cc bike it's small and powerful but good if you are starting out. you were very vague on your skills so it's hard for us to pick it for you. if you are skilled and want speed and power.. maybe a 1000 cc sportbike that's lowered or a cruiser (it doesn't have to be a harley. they're very very nice but overrated and not the only choice of a good reliable cruising bike)

You have to take several factors into consideration: are you a skilled rider?, you want power-or do you mean a speed demon?, will you be traveling long distances, etc... Your height will play a major factor also .Personally, I have a Harley-Davidson softail Deuce (FXSTD), and it is my only means of transportation---I LOVE IT!!!

If you have to ask you don't know enough. Buy a moped.
