Some guys do think that. I also that think men influence the line between What a Woman should look like. Most guys want a thin big breasted woman who has had so much plastic surgery, you put her near a furnace and she melts. Too unrealistic.

So'sYerFace, Your right they are real people who are actual hurting themselves. That they are hurting themselves is their choice. I am saying it is unrealistic because it is influencing some Women, and Many young girls that that is healthy, when in fact that is not the case. If you would look at the word Unrealistic as what I have intended the word to be instead of By what it means in the Dictionary than you might get this whole question.

I agree completely, I don't get the fascination with wanting to become a copy clone of a famous person just to fit in with the standards of beauty. I think our society shows and idolized one form of beauty/perfection instead of accepting the many forms of beauty. I don't want to look like a celebrity because I' am happy and secure in who I' am as a person. Besides, most celebs are fake and heavily made up to give the illusion and the superficiality that they are perfect when in reality they are not. It is the media, magazines, and the entertainment industry that bombards us with images of what women "should" look like every chance they get, but it is up to the parents and role models to enforce healthy self-esteem.

Well let's see...the majority of men seem to drool over the celebs like they are some sort of goddess. I disagree with what you say, "someone you will never be realistically." They are ,however, just real people like anyone else. (That statement right there just proved what men think of them btw) They sit on the toilet just like the rest of us. Regular women can diet and excercise and look just as good as they do if they so desire.Give me a personal trainer and a makeover and there ya go... That's all it is. It's just the fact that they are so highly praised and publisized for it which in turn makes them so much more desirable in mens eyes.So why don't you tell me why...you're a guy. You know how guys think.
Not that I wanna look like them anyway...btw, have you seen what some of them look like without makeup and fancy clothes on...I rest my case!
Okay I understand what you mean now.Not only that, yes they are hurting themselves(esp. models) and getting exalted and encouraged for it. It's disgusting.

I have lost weight (no I wasnt dieting). I am trying to gain some weight. I dont understand the obsession with this super thin look either. I would never want a celebs life. Yes they are gorgeous but take away the airbrushing, tons of makeup, hairspray and fancy clothes, they look awful because we are so used to seeing them looking 'glam'. I dont know how some girls wake up and spend hours on clothes, hair, makeup. If I did that I would feel like I have lost alot of time. I dont wear makeup or blowdry my hair alot. There is more to life than being shallow and superficial.

I used to have the obsession of being thin, now it is more with being healthy. I had a best friend who went through a eating disorder and it is not worth it to suffer the way she did. It takes its toll on you both mentally and physically.
At the same time, men (some men, NOT all) also look at women and prefer the unrealistic image of a celebrity.

I'm 45 and I don't feel this way anymore, but I sure did in my younger days! Went down to 90 pounds for my husband because he said I was fat at 103 pounds! I was SO STUPID! I am heavier than that now and I don't worry about what other people think about my weight. But I think here's why:
There are a lot of guys who make it known that they are attracted to the "movie star" type. We all want to be attractive and liked, but when the guys you like are lusting over other women instead of you, it hurts our feelings. So we try and try to become something that we're not. There's nothing worse than being told that you are not attractive and too fat.

From early on in our lives we a being brought up in a society that feels bad about themselves. So they take that revolving door and swing it into the next generation. We should really stop this revolving door because people who think that are ugly are actually really beautiful people. Plus, people aren't always beautiful but then can become attractive when they become adults. People can be mean to other people about the way that they look. We should all just accept each other and be ourselves. I guess we will always have the mountian that we have to climb higher towards the top, until we find that one special someone who makes us feel beautiful.

Probably because magazines and other types of media drive it into their brains. If you notice, most magazines only have skinny models and are always giving suggestions about how to be "beautiful" and how to lose weight etc. Also with commercials it's horrible, tv shows- how often are "chubby" girls portrayed? The dove commercials are getting to the point though, I like them. It's nice to look your best, but I agree with you trying to be super thin is verrryyy unhealthy.

I am glad that you are a guy who apparently doesn't like toothpick girls. That make me happy. I think that Media, of course, has alot to do with Women is society today. Also, you always see models for a clothing line that they really love, and almost, if not all of them are sticks. Especially brands like Gucci, Dooney and Burke, Versace, etc. They are soo skinny the clothes look super floppy bacause they are sixe 00. I personally have never had the thought to come across my mind that I want to be super-skinny to fit in. I have always said 'Real Women Have Curves'.

if the obsession to be thin is this big now, i worry how it will be when MY daughter's(1&2), are teens. i know that for me i felt the pressure to be thin and fit in when i was in high school and that was 15 yrs ago. i still feel the pressure f/ the other mother's in pta and such. why do we do it to each other and more importantly to ourselves? being healthy should be the goal not starving ourselve into an attractive corpse! â¥

Well.... I don't try to look like a movie star. It seems that they are usually on drugs and making themselves puke, and that just ain't me. Beauty should be natural, and doing those things isn't natural. Has this answered your question?
But then again, my boyfriend looks and googoos over all these super thin movie stars and singers and it makes me wonder hmmm.... is there something wrong with me.
