I need to glue some clay to a piece of wood. Any suggestions on what type of glue to use?

You don't say what kind of clay. I'm assuming the clay will be hardened/fired. A white tacky glue would probably work since it is good for both ceramics and wood.

Elmers wood glue will do a fantastic job. You can clean before drying with damp paper towel.
