First I must say my baby's on Medicaid, so they pretty much "told me" where I had to take her. This was her first pediatrician, and he was not very, hum, "sensitive"... I could tell he was almost rolling his eyes when I asked a question that he probably had heard 1800 times before, but I needed to ask...
And it turned out that there's a pediatrician closer to our house, so we called Medicaid office and they transfered her records. Now, this doctor always seems to be in a hurry, he never asks me about the baby's sleep, behaviour, etc... I don't know, it's like he just wants to check her and move on to the next patient. Let alone if I have questions...
So, just because we're on Medicaid, we have to have "half-a**" visits?

We fired our peditrician because she was just off. She was very my way or the highway and seemed uncaring about kids.

Then we fired the assigned family doctor because she said that I "had to" start nightweaning at 7 WEEKS!

There are a lot of idiot doctors out there. Just keep looking.

Medicaid may be footing some (or most) of the bill, but YOU are still the one "hiring" the doctor. There is always someone else in their "network" that you can switch to if you're not satisfied. But please, I encourage you-- if you *aren't* satisfied with the care you've been given, let the doctor's office know! If nobody complains, they pretty much figure that the status quo is perfectly adequate. If enough people mention, "Dr. So-and-so had a lousy bedside manner with me & my child," eventually Dr. So-and-so is going to be told to shape up or ship out. Even if nothing else is done, at least you have the satisfaction of informing them that they've lost your business & $$, and why.

I would personally suggest finding a Family Practice doctor in your area. You go for your own needs, they see the child(ren) for theirs, and the doctors tend to be much more involved and invested in your family's well-being when they are seeing all of you on a regular basis. Many will even do prenatal care and births, if your family should expand a bit over the years. :)

Best of luck! Don't settle just because you're on Medicaid. That doesn't make you or your baby any less deserving of good healthcare than the rest of the population.

I know plenty of people who are on medicaid, and have had good doctor experiences, maybe you need to discuss your concerns with your childs doctor. Tell them that you don't want to seem a bit pushy but you have some questions that you would like answered, all parents have the right to be informed on their childs health and reassured. If this doctor seems irratated or annoyed look for another doctor and ask around you would be surprised how many doctors actually take medicaid. I wish you lots of luck.
To expedite the doctors visits have your questions ready and call in advance (when making the appointment) that you have several questions to ask. Most of the time doctors are just trying to see all patients in a timely matter if you schedule an extra 5minutes they can sit and discuss concerns without a time restraint.

That stinks. My son is on Medicaid, too, and I love his pediatrician, but the wait at the office takes forver and I hate how that is. I don't believe you should have to put up with a doctor like that and I would try to get a new one until you are happy. Do you know of anyone you can ask recommendations from before switching again? Ask lots of questions first if you can. Good luck!!

We're not on Medicaid, but I've had plenty of problems of my own. We just switched pediatricians because ours wasn't supportive of breastfeeding and was giving me non-breastfeeding friendly advice. But you don't want to be stuck with a lousy doctor for the next 18 years of your child's life. Remember, you are the employer and you can fire your doctor at any time!

I would find a new dr that has time to care about you and your family. I have never had any problems with our dr. I started seeing him when I was 16 and 10 years later he has since delivered both of my children. We don't feel like a number, he takes the time to ask us questions, play with my kids in the office, and HE says do you have any questions for me! We feel like he cares or that we are important. Sometimes things get missed if the dr doesn't take time to ask questions to make sure things are going right for the kids. Good Luck!

it's not just because you are on medicaid. the doctor wouldn't know that anyway because they have no idea who gets billed for their services. unless you have a specific question about your babies sleep or behavior, they are not going to ask. you're right, doctors don't care. it's your baby, not theirs. so unless your baby has some sort of problem, do not expect them to be sensitive.

Request another doctor, and report that guy to the AMA. Pediatricians LOVE children and welcome any questions about them. Go with your gut feeling.

The guy shouldn't be practicing medicine.
