how to get out of an apartment lease?

If you signed it, the only way you can probably get out of it is to pay the landlord a fee (probably your deposit and 1 month rent) so he can find someone else to rent it. The best thing for you to do is to speak with your landlord and find out what he wants for you to break it. You might get lucky and he already knows someone else who wants it.

Depends on a few things.
1: Did you sign the lease already?
2: What is causing you to change your mind the condition of the apartment?
These are key factors if you have not signed and have just agreed to move placed your security deposit and application fees down then you can usually cancel the move in and you may forfeit the amount that you have placed down. If its the apartment condition the the Landlord is responsible to bring it up within a matter of days.
A note: Laws are differnt in each State. Find your local landlord/tenant rights union and ask them about your states laws. They can even help you with bad landlords!

I think the laws vary by state..But you do have a certain amount of time to change your mind and get your deposit back. Then after that amount of time you may loose your deposit. My husband and I changed our mind and got a deposit back..You could type it in a search engine and find out for your state.
