and someone told me that if I want to lsiten to CDs...i have to connect a cable from my CD drive (in this case, it's the dvd burner) to my sound input on my motherboard, is it true? But, where is the sound input on my motherboard...?
assume i am using a asus striker extreme...
but isn't it there is only one cable extened from a cd drive? which is the sata/ide cable..? or actually there are 2? an audio and sata??

(i am using an onboard soundcard)

Hi. On board sound will use your data cable for everything. Some older soundcards used a separate cable to connect to the CD drive.

Yes, that is true. Here is a picture of the cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-DVD-Sound-Card-Cable/dp/B00062RX5W

Well, thats a weird looking cable. Notice the little extra white plug that comes from the cable in this picture? Yours probably won't have that, I've never seen that, but only picture I could find. The actual cable looks just like the picture, but probably minus the little extra white plug you see.

Its a 4 pin connector (4 holes). If you look at the back of your dvd burner (where the power and interface cable connects, you should also see this 4 pin deal. You connect one end to here. Normally the other end connects into the same 4 pin connector in the sound card. Since you sound card is built into the mother board, then you should have this 4 pin connector somewhere on your motherboard. If you can find it, plug it up and try to play a CD. If you don't hear any sounds, then its hooked up backwards, just turn one of the ends around. There isn't any grooves on it to prevent you from hooking it up backwards, so you just got to play it by ear, so to speak.
