Can anybody tell me about the armed rebellion by farmers that took place in western North Dakota in 1934 or '35? A Google search turned up nothing.

The Farmer's Holiday Association is a group started in the summer of 1932 by Milo Reno in Iowa. A North Dakota branch was formed at Jamestown. The group endorsed the withholding of farm products from the market- basically a farmers' strike. One person was killed when farmers began to blockade roads. Also farmers got together to resist foreclosure. They rallied to destroy and burn their crops, thus lowering supply and rising costs. Farmers blockaded marketing points in northwestern North Dakota in an effort to raise commodity prices in 1932. In 1933 Governor William L. Langer proclaimed moratoriums on mortgage foreclosure sales and on the shipment of farm commodities from North Dakota; the latter was declared unconstitutional in 1934 by a Federal judge. A Farm Holiday Association strike in May proved unsuccessful and a violent strike at the new Capitol construction site forced a call-up of the North Dakota National Guard.

Cooper and Smith in their history of the ND National Guard "Citizens as Soldiers" point out that very few Guardsmen were farmers.
