Yes they can, but passing back is the trouble. A vortex is normally for the non corporeal (no body) so if you pass over your body will be damaged, perhaps even killed. Vortexes are found in houses that have many spirits in them, it is how they travel between the veil.

Basically what you are talking about is astral projection. where you're spiritual body leaves you're physical body by a different demension of physical laws. Do some research on astral projection and you will see how real it really is.

I think people probably can, because my sister and her now ex husband, seemed to spend most of their time living in completely different realms.
