Yes, its fine. There is nothing special about "horse" shampoo.
I use what ever I find at the dollar store. The only thing to make sure is that you rinse it all out. If you leave any on the skin it could cause skin issues.

I would advise against it. Many human hair products have perfumes and other chemicals that can irritate the skin of some horses, particularly those with sensitive skin like Thoroughbreds and some warmblood breeds. I've seen dish soap work because its generally milder than most hair products. Really, though, your best bet is to go with a shampoo and conditioner designed for horses. The milder, the better, as you stand less of chance of irritating your horse's skin.
Remember, though, it's not good for the horse's coat to wash it with shampoo too often. You end up destroying the natural oils in the coat and stripping it of its shine. Frequent bathing can also soften the hooves.

I've used dish soap to wash my horse. Never again, it made her coat all hard and oil-less, but she made it without any problems.
I'm sure your horse will be fine and he'll smell good, right?
As a general rule though, don't wash your horse more than once every two or three weeks. They don't produce oils as quickly as we do and human shampoos can strip their coats of important oils that keep them shiny and soft.

Yes, I've used all sorts of shampoos on my horse. Apple and cucumber shampoo provided a lovely aroma......
Try using the conditioners as well, some of them provide the same results as using canter coat shine......
Just keep an eye on the skin though cause as with humans they can have reactions to some shampoos..... (Never had a problem with mine though!)
Good luck...

The rule I was taught is if you'd use it on your own hair,it's okay to use it on a horse. Thus things like dish soap etc. would be an obvious no.

Oh yeah, you can use pretty much anything thats not horsey made for your horse-- i actually commonly use dish soap. For a really nice coat tho, fit for show and everything i would try and get show sheen shampoo (horsey made) and other things

I would advise against it. A horse's pH level is not the same as a human. It can cause skin issues.
