I would advise Orlando if you like theme parks (4 Disney, 2 Universal, Sea World and various water parks) plus others in easy driving distance. Beaches and Cape Canaveral also in easy reach.
LA is a big city - it has beaches (some not so nice) but you will have a fair bit of driving around the city to get to tourist destinations and that can be tedious especially in the rush hour.
also Orlando is "User friendly" and LA is certainly not.

I'd go to Orlando. There will be plenty of cite-seeing and shopping in New York. And you can go to Universal Studios, which is fun for all ages. Or Disney World. And if you have to go to the beach, drive a couple of hours and spend the day at the beach. And you can also go to the Kenedy Space Center, where they have rocket launches. Or you can go to the Ever Glades, which is a national park. Its also closer to New York..

No contest, Orlando beats Los Angeles hands down, especially for a 15 year old, theme parks galore, beaches not far away either.

new york city...then long island....( only an hour and half drive from manhattan)
the hamptons...gorgeous beaches..
new york city has the shopping....
no need to get on a plane to visit smog filled los angeles...
or commercial orlando ( which is in the middle of nowhere)
after manhattan and the hamptons..they won't want to visit any theme parks!

Well it depends on the setting. First, you realize that LA is 5 hours on a plane from NY right? If you are ok with that, I would say LA - there is much more to do and you can pretty much get everything you are looking for. Everything is really spread out though, so be prepared for some coach or car traveling.

I too visited Orlando and hated it, found it really commercial. I would never go back there as our villa got broken into and had money, jewellery stolen. Have not tried LA yet but would never return to Orlando!

Disney World is much better and more expensive than Disneyland but there is much more to see in the LA area.
