When i try to start my computer, it turns on, kinda. Fans are running but theres no display. no keyboard. nothing. and there are four lights on the front of my comptuer... and the lights 3 and 4 are light. Eventually i can get my comptuer to start if i try long enough at turning it on and off... but why is it that my computer computer only starts Sometimes? and what wrong with it for it not to start?

This is a hardware problem, it could be either your power supply or your motherboard is faulty, it would be best to take this to someone who can test the individual components for you, or if you know a computer whizz (every neighbour has one!) you could ask them to see try a differnet power supply in it for you, if this doesnt fix it then your mainboard has gone, if it fixes it then you just need to get yourself a new power supply, take your power supply along to any computer store and they will find a suitable replacement for you.

There may be a problem with power supply or RAM chips. First try to properly seat the RAM chips one at a time and see if it starts. In case of power supply, it will have to be replaced. As another remote possibility, there could be a virus or corrupted boot sector on your hard drive. For any of these two, you can run antivirus and scandisk (thorough test) respectively.

As soon as you switch on
1. you should hear one single peep
2.KBD lights should come and go.
Now press F8 and select Safe Mode.
My computer C; properties disk cleanup.
3. Tools / more options Delete Old System Restore Points. chkdsk / defrag .
When next time you get the computer working,
exit all programs appearing in Taskbar. not needed
Go to http://www.pcpitstop.com
and get a report on your hardware.
probably Your SMP/harddisk need replacement. .

i think the other answers are rite but if its true da hardrive is messed up ram is messed up and other stuff is messed up
don't waste time fixing it
it'll cost you more money than buying a new computer
so wat i advice you is 2 buy a new computer
go 2 tigerdirect.com they have cheap computers and good ones
they have a sale now so i adivce you 2 go and try before go and checking it with other people they'll charge you a lot of money then at the end add all the money up and u could have bought a new computer

I bet your video card is not seated right in its PCI-express or AGP slot. If that is not the case make sure the cable that your VGA cable is properly connected to your video card.

check the cords in the back and make sure the cords are tight if they are take the cover off and make sure the cordes are tight on the inside
